Up and Coming

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

How’s your week going? Mine– enjoying the suspense part of Spring. Dark, stormy days.

I tend to not like sunshine. It’s too bright. Too cheery. I think because of this, God gave me an uber-optimist, bright and shiny child and a border cut from the same cloth who both LIKE sunshine. If I had to pick an animal I’m most like it would probably be a bat. Needless to say when I posted last week that Spring was my third favorite season– this led to utter shock to this border.

And then I explained. Thunderstorms. Rain. Lightening. It’s a marvel of nature and why I like spring. I mean, the new flowers are cool, too.

How about you? What’s your favorite part of spring?

This week it’s all about executions. There’s been quite a bit of news surrounding executions lately and it’s an interesting topic to explore. Do you think a drug company should be able to restrict the use of their medication for something they find objectionable? How would you feel about the return of firing squads?

Hope you’ll take in these posts and let me know your thoughts.

Have a great week!

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

How has your week been? Good I hope and I hope you are starting to experience the Spring warm-up and that all your snow is safely melting and not flooding you out.

I like the newness of spring. The blooming flowers and still slightly cool air. It’s my third favorite season right behind fall and winter.

What’s your favorite thing about spring?

For you this week . . .

I have some fabulous guest bloggers coming up.

Tuesday: Dianna Benson (who was recently nominated for a Selah Award!) will be guest blogging on a personal level about her son’s traumatic brain injury.

Thursday: James Minter stops by to talk about his personal experience with genetic haemochromatosis.

Hope you all have a fabulous week!

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

How has your week been? I have to say, I have had another exciting week. My sophomore novel, Poison, has been nominated for another award! This time by Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. I really wish I could be there at the conference. It’s one I’ve definitely wanted to attend because I hear the mountains in Ashville, NC are amazing.

Today is Mother’s Day and here in Colorado it’s supposed to be cold, rainy and maybe even snowy. I say . . . bring. it. on. I LOVE days where I can stay inside and snuggle with my children who are growing up waaayyy too fast.

For you this week:

Tuesday: Forensic expert Amryn Cross stops by to talk about what real detectives do and how to write them authentically.

Thursday: Author question concerning the ER treatment of a domestic violence patient.

Hope you have a great week and Happy Mother’s Day!!

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

What’s new in your neck of the woods. I have to tell you that I’m finding it a little too chilly for May in Colorado. I am ready for some sun and new flowers. Anyone else?

I’m excited to announce that my sophomore novel, Poison, made the short list for the 2014 INSPY award. Wow– so honored to be named amongst such well-known authors like Brandilyn Collins, Steven James and Randy Singer. I am definitely the underdog but what great company!

For you this week.

Tuesday: A truly horrible story that I wish was fiction but sadly is not– veterans in Phoenix, AZ dying while waiting for healthcare.

Thursday: More on NDEs. With the movie, Heaven is for Real, now in theaters it seems that interest is not waning in this phenomenon. What do you think? Are they medical? Are they spiritual? Or are they both?

Have a great week.

April is Child Abuse Prevention month. Every year I try not to talk about it but then quickly realize that we as a society haven’t overcome this issue.

We are still injuring and killing our children intentionally.

In light of this, this week I’ll be discussing two infanticide cases of note.

Tuesday: The Megan Huntsman case.

Thursday: The Stephanie Greene case.

And please, if you suspect child abuse, please report it. You might be the only one to save a child’s life.

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

What’s everyone up to? Me– burning the midnight oil. Literally– I am just writing this post and when it does post– that will be the actual time I finish. This one is on the fly. I seriously feel like this dog’s ears.

This week there are two very interesting author questions.

You know I love these!!

Tuesday: Author question dealing with cerebral hemorrhage.

Thursday: Forensic author question that Amryn Cross will be handling dealing with fetal bones. Super interesting stuff.

They are expecting snow here tomorrow. Bummer. Was loving the sunshine.

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

Who is ready for spring? I know I am. I do enjoy winter/snow– mostly when I don’t have to be out in it and I’ve had to be out a lot in it so– you get the idea.

Spring brings everything new and that’s what I have for you this week– new medical devices that might eventually make their way onto the market.

Tuesday: The Skin Cell Gun. Just what is it and how might it help burn patients?

Thursday: X-Stat. Do you have a character who’s been shot and they can’t control the bleeding then this medical device might be your answer.

We’re continuing the Book of Questions over at my author page. There’s a winner every month and you’re eligible for the prize just by participating.

Hope everyone else is thawing out and on their way to seeing the daffodils and tulips break through.

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

Everyone still with us after celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? Anyone do anything FUN?!?

This week it’s all about celebrating good books and weird medical conditions. I’ll be highlighting Lisa Gardner’s Fear Nothing and the medical condition she highlights in the novel– congenital insensitivity to pain.

I’m curious to know what you think– would it be a blessing or a curse to never feel physical pain?

Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

What’s new on your side of the world?

Here? Finally the snow is melting and spring might be peaking around the corner. I am hopeful we have seen the last of the snow but I do live in Colorado and we had snow into May last year.

For you this week:

Tuesday: A blog post about Hollywood’s fascination with the nosebleed. Is it medically accurate to portray nosebleeds as a sign of increased pressure in your head?

Thursday: Sally Bradley returns to the Medical Edge with a question about drowning.

Hope you have a fabulous week! And if you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day– remember– responsible drinking peeps.

Hello Redwood’s Fans!

How has your week been?

Nothing too new here on the Redwood front. Busy saving lives, writing book proposals, blog posts and learning all about databases. I know– I can see you’re full of jealousy.

For you this week:

Tuesday: Amory Cannon is back answering a really fascinating forensics question about DNA testing.

Thursday: What can a monitoring system for a nurse? Can it detect a stroke? I’ll take on this question for Holly this week.

Hope you all are well.
