What Is My Experience?
This is an excellent question and I think you should know the exact type of medical expert you’re consulting with. I have been an RN, as of this writing, for 31 years– actively practicing and still working in the profession.
My first three years of nursing were in the adult arena. I worked 1.5 years in an adult ICU and then 1.5 years in a community based emergency room. When I worked in the ER I learned that I loved working with pediatric patients. From there, I transitioned to a children’s hospital where I first worked five years in a generalized pediatric ICU. This means they admitted everything from kids needing heart surgery, to trauma, to complex medical patients. After this stint, I worked the next 15+ years in pediatric urgent care and emergency nursing. From that point, I served as a Nursing House Supervisor for 5ish years (yes, I was a nursing house supervisor during the pandemic). In 2021– I chose to transition to a large pediatric telephone triage call center (still at a major children’s hospital) and now serve as an Assisstant Clinical Manager in the unit I work and STILL take calls and care for patients and their families.
I hold certifications in pediatric critical care and adult emergency medicine. I STILL teach advanced life support classes for both adults and pediatrics (ACLS and PALS).
I have also lectured and taught skills to EMT’s, paramedics, nurses and doctors! I’ve had the opportunity to teach in both paramedic and nursing based programs.
Be wary of medical professionals who went to school only and then left their profession. I know what it’s like to be at the beside. To deal with the complexities of providing nursing care and working alongside other medical professionals to bring patients and familes to healing. I also have experienced what it’s like to help families when their loved ones die.
I also know the writing side. I’m an award winning, critically acclaimed, PW bestselling suspense author. I can help you take this medical information and weave it into a story that will make sense for the reader. I can help with both the medical question and scene analysis to make sure your reader is not getting too bogged down in the medical details.
What People Say About Me:
“Jordyn Redwood has become my most trusted resource for all things medical. Her help has been instrumental, her knowledge of the field, seemingly endless. Several times, I’ve written myself into a corner, and she’s been quick to help dig me out.” Bestselling author Andrew E. Kaufman
“Jordyn Redwood is my go-to consultant for all questions medical when I’m writing fiction. So far, that’s five novels and one novella, and I’m sure I’ll be knocking on her virtual door again soon. From gunshot wounds to shipwreck injuries to fevers and disease– I trust her answers completely! Her responses are timely and thorough. Any novelist would produce stronger work for having consulted Jordyn.” Author Jocelyn Green
“Not only does Jordyn Redwood write compelling stories, but her personal and first-hand knowledge has helped other authors with accurate details in their own writing. Ms. Redwood has provided this author with medical insight and knowledge on more than one occasion. Google might provide facts, but they are generic. Ms. Redwood addresses the specific nuances of potential and would-be scenarios, lending realism to fictional people.” Author Robin E. Mason
“I’d never thought much about accurate medical information being given in novels. I’d just assumed that writers do their due diligence researching. That is until I helped an author actually “do” her research (she’d thought it unimportant). I’m also not well versed on medical procedures, hence any fact given was fine with me until I heard Jordyn’s lecture.”
“I was impressed and fascinated with the information Jordyn presented. She gave a wealth of information in a short span of time. I needed even more time to digest what was being given and time to ask more questions. I like the glint in Jordyn’s eye, or sense of humor, Jordyn used to deal with such a serious topic.”
“Thank you, Jordyn, for detail and thoroughness of the medical aspects of writing.” Lauren Wilhoite-Willis
